  • Choosing the Right Paint Color

    July 26, 2017

Your kitchen renovation project is in the finishing stages. All that’s left is selecting the paint color for the walls. How can you possibly decide on the right paint color with all the choices available to you?  According to Cranbury Design’s Project Managers, who help our clients make all their kitchen selections, from cabinet color, countertop materials, backsplash tile, flooring and everything in between, there is a process to getting to the right decision.

First, gather all the selections used to create the kitchen design.  And don’t forget any other home decorations you want considered in the color scheme.  Cabinet colors, countertop materials and the tile used for the backsplash should all be reviewed together.  Next, select sample paint swatches that complement the overall color theme.  You can also review paint colors online. Benjamin Moore’s website https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us can get you started, or Sherwin Williams, https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners  Make sure you get actual paint sample chips before your final purchases, as colors viewed online can vary based on the type of computer monitor, tablet or phone screen you are using.

Then these colors should be assessed to see how they look in your actual space.  This is one of the most important selection steps given that lighting, both natural and sourced from lighting fixtures is one of the most critical factors in how colors are perceived.  A grey color in one environment can appear blue or even lilac in another.

Another consideration, especially in this age of open floor plans in kitchen design, is what other rooms, home furnishings and paint colors can be seen from the newly renovated space.  Are you looking for a complement or a contrast of color?  Our Project Management team can help you easily get to the right decision for you and your home renovation design style.

  • Planning Your Next Renovation Project

    July 13, 2017

Summer is now in full swing, and many homeowners are planning renovation projects in their kitchen or baths over the next few months. What is the process a homeowner should expect to go through as they plan out a kitchen or bath project — where to begin?

    Inventory Your Existing Space

What are you thinking about changing in your kitchen or bath area? Appliances, fixtures, flooring, cabinetry, countertops need to be considered. Do you want better task lighting under the cabinets or island pendant lighting? A renovation is a great time to upgrade the lighting in your space. Don’t forget to consider re-painting, a new backsplash tile and even the type of hardware for your cabinetry. Take “before” photos of your existing space and try to gather a digital scrapbook of your preferences for the new space from sites like Houzz or Pinterest.

Once you have a general outline of the scope of your project, contact your design professional who will come out to your home to discuss your project and provide a general estimate of what your project will cost. This estimate, along with estimates for your appliances, fixtures and tile make up your proposed budget. The final budget is confirmed once actual cabinet choices, countertop materials and other project items are selected.

    Timing Considerations Are Important

In addition to design time, many projects require township building permits – which, depending on the township, can take several weeks before a project can start. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time before the desired completion time of the project to allow for these items. It’s better to start early to make time for appliance, cabinetry, countertop, tile and accessory decisions.

    Project Management Is Key

Once your project starts, at Cranbury Design Center we use a Project Management approach to get your job done on time. Every project we take on is managed by a Project Manager. We create an initial project schedule and plan, assist clients with shopping trips to make project selections, monitor deliveries, and handle all trade professionals involved with the project. Constant updates to clients ensure the project stays on schedule and within budget. This an integral component of the process.

  • Another happy client

    June 20, 2017

“Cranbury Design did a fantastic remodeling project for us. Starting with Charlie, Frank, and Melissa, everyone was friendly, considerate, and of course, talented in their field of expertise!! The job included a complete remodeling of the kitchen, powder room, laundry room, master bathroom, and replacement of the floors!

We truly felt part of their family and continue to do so months after the project was completed. My family and I are thrilled with the results. The best way for me to summarize our experience is simply when I walk into our new kitchen every morning I smile!!”
